DIY – How To Make A Needle Book

If you’re anything like me when you craft, you have a hard time keeping track of your needles.  I don’t know where they go but I’m always buying more needles!  I recently bought another package of needles at the craft store and decided this time I would come up with a new way to store them in between projects.

This is what I came up with.

I used some of the buttons from my clay button DIY to decorate my book.

If you make a needle book I would love to see pictures.  Just comment with a link to the location or email me at!

Week in Pictures – Week Nine

This week was pretty fun.  I got to hang out with friends and help them get ready for Renegade Craft Fair.  In between all that fun work my week looked like this.

I made a teal Frazzle for an Etsy order.

My friend Renee suggested Sleepytime tea to help with my problems falling asleep. It was yummy!  Did you know they have it in vanilla flavor?

I took my dad to his doctor appointment.  While he was there I went to Starbucks to get some blogging and Austin Craft Riot work done.

What happened to Wednesday?

I went to run some errands on Thursday evening.  On my way home I saw this beautiful sunset.

I try to get as much blogging and Dreaming in Craft work as I can done on the weekends.  I usually spend my lunch break at work on Fridays planning out my weekend projects.

On Saturday I helped my friends set up at Renegade.  I went back to shop with my mom that afternoon.  I got some goodies from Robo Roku, This Creative Life, BabyBolt and Lip Glosserie.  In between, I got to have my very favorite meal…Summer Rolls from Firebowl Cafe!

Sunday was busy.  I worked on a new DIY for the blog and put together my next giveaway (stay tuned this week for both).  Then I went to help my friends tear down at Renegade.  I spotted this awesome Airstream at Palmer Events Center.

That’s about it.  This week will be spent catching up on Dreaming in Craft work, adding yoga back into my daily routine and hopefully spending some time with friends.  :-)  What are your plans for this week?

Bo says, “Have a great week!”

Sunday Songs – Alabama Shakes

I have been hearing Hold On by Alabama Shakes a lot lately.  Have you heard it?

I don’t know why I like it so much.  It just gets my attention every time I hear it.

I love the story of how the band originally formed…just two kids in high school who happened to know how to play guitar and bass.  And now their debut album is available everywhere.

It’s so great to know that even if you start from small beginnings that you can achieve big goals.  :-)

I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard of Instagram.  Is anyone else as addicted to it as I am?  Seriously.  I can’t stop taking pictures!  I love it!  My favorite part is the social aspect of it.  I learn more about my blog and twitter friends not only from their words but I get a little peek into their world through pictures.  I love to share pictures from my life, too.  It’s like visual twitter  And, bonus…I can post it to Twitter!  :-)

Last week one of my facebook friends posted a picture on facebook from an app I had never heard of and I was very curious.  I clicked the picture and found that it was called  The set up of the app is very similar to Instagram except that this app lets you animate the pictures.  So fun!  Of course, Instagram will always be my first love, but sometimes it’s fun to have a little motion in your pictures.

I tried out a few examples to give you an idea of what you can do with this app.

the candle flames are on a repetitive loop.

One of the two flowers is blowing in the wind.  I love how this one looks!

Only the waterfall is moving.  The rest of the water is completely still.

Sometimes Bo gets tired of me taking his picture all the time.  If he doesn’t want his picture taken he won’t look at me.  This day my dad was talking to him and I called his name.

As you can probably tell I have been having a lot of fun with this app for the past week.

Some of the things I like about this app

  • It’s an easy way to make an animated picture on the go (or if you’re like me and you don’t know how to do this in Photoshop).
  • I like the social network-y part of it.  As I said before the layout of the  app is very similar to Instagram.
  • You can add fun filters to your picture before you post it (also similar to my favorite Instagram).
  • You can share your Cinemagrams on Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr.  Perfect for getting the picture out to everyone to enjoy.  :-)

Things that could be imrpoved

  • It would be extremely helpful to be able to adjust the brush size when highliting the sections for the app to animate.  If you look closely at some of these you will see where my highlighting overlapped beyond the item I wanted to animate.
  • No iPad app?  Maybe some day.  I tried to use the iPhone version on my iPad to make it a little easier to highlight the animated sections with a larger screen but it crashed when I got to the filters section of the app…every time!

Overall I think this is a great photography app if you are just using it for fun.  If you download it you should browse through some of the other Cinemagrams posted by users.  Some of them are really awesome and some will just make you laugh because they are so silly!

If you decide to try out the app let me know so I can check out your pictures.

Week in Pictures – Week Eight

Hello!  I’m back!  I took this weekend off from the blog to spend time with my mom for Mother’s Day and to help some friends get ready for a craft show.  I’m back and ready to share some pictures from my week.

This week I didn’t take a lot of pictures since I was helping my friends but here’s a little peek into what my week looked like.

Last year we barely got any rain at all.  I’m pretty sure we made up for all of it last week.

Once the rain cleared up I saw some pretty amazing sunrises.

I shipped some Dreaming in Craft orders last week.

I see this quite regularly since I live downtown.

This, too.  They turn off the traffic light downtown at night.

I love bubble wrap!!

How was your week?

Last week I came across an article about a photographer who photographed London in a very unique way.  Instead of taking pictures of the beautiful sites in the city, Gavin Hammond chose to photograph their reflections in puddles.

{Photos by Gavin Hammond}

It has been raining some in Austin over the past week so on Saturday I decided to go outside and try my own puddle photography.   I just took a couple pictures on my street so I don’t have any spectacular buildings in my pictures.  It’s mostly trees and power lines.  Next time we get some rain I might try to photograph some fun stuff in Austin.

What do you think?  It’s interesting to look at things from a whole new perspective.

Week in Pictures – Week Seven

It’s Monday!  I mean, it’s Monday.   Hehe!  Just kidding!  But, it is time to look back at last week and start working on this week.  Last week consisted of five things for me.

I finished cutting some felt for hair clips,

posted my first DIY on the blog,

and made some Stormy plushies!

This week I finally quit Time Warner…well, just the wireless internet.  I have had problems with it from the beginning so I finally decided to try something else.  I’m trying Clear.  So far, so good.

I got a fun new case for my iPad.  It has a keyboard.  This has made doing some of my work on the iPad so much easier!

Then I did lots of work.  :-)

I spent some time with old and new friends eating lots of yummy treats.

My mom’s birthday was this week!  We celebrated with some carrot cake!

There you go.  Just five words.  What words described your week?

Sunday Songs – Newsies

This week the Tony nominations were announced.  This is a big deal for me as I live in Texas and only get to see musicals when they tour.  It’s my one taste of the live performances until then.  Of course I buy the cast recordings and listen to them over and over again but it’s just not the same as the real thing.

I’m so excited that this year Newsies finally made it to Broadway.

I have thought since I was a kid and first saw this movie that it should be (Yes, I know that sounds super nerdy…don’t care!).  :-)  Now it’s finally happening and I can’t wait for the show to tour so I can see it.  Or, you know, I could suddenly get rich and go on a trip to New York. That’s okay, too.  For now I’ll have to settle for the cast recording and Tony’s.

I was very happy to hear that Newsies was nominated for 8 Tony’s!  This includes best musical!  I was so happy to learn that Harvey Fierstein had written the book for the show and he was nominated for it.  Love him!!

The cast was so excited about the nominations this week.

In honor of the awesome Newsies news this week I thought it would be perfect to share some of the awesome songs from the movie!

I can’t wait to cheer the Newsies on June 10th at the Tony Awards!!  Will you be watching?

A Key to Happier Living

I found this cute stop motion animation called A Key to Happier Living by Alice, Lai Sze Chan and thought it would be perfect for this week’s Saturday animation because it reminded me of yesterday’s Question of the week about kindness (which, by the way, you can still answer here). :-)

This stop motion was a graduation project for the creator.  She chose her topic from the 10 Keys to Happier Living from Action for Happiness.  The theme for this animation was “Relating: Connect with People” and I think she did an amazing job of depicting that.

I love how each colorful scene is separate from the others in its own picture frame and then it all comes together in the center.

This gives me an idea for a possible art project.  Hmmm…I think I’ll keep it a secret for now until I have time to work on it.

What are you up to this weekend?  I hope you’re having some fun with friends.  :-)

Question of the Week – #3

This week something very unexpected happened to me.  I was having a stressful day on Tuesday so I decided to stop at Starbucks for a frappuccino treat.  I went through the drive through because the line was short and I was in a hurry.  I ordered and pulled up to the window to pay.  The cashier told me to keep my card because the person two cars in front of me bought the coffee for me and the car in front of me.  Isn’t that awesome??

This instantly made me want to do something nice for someone else.  There wasn’t anyone in line behind me so I’ll have to wait to pay it forward until the next time I go for coffee.  :-)  It’s pretty amazing how one small act of kindness can turn someone’s day around.  I stopped thinking about how stressed out I was feeling and just thought about how nice it was that someone I didn’t even know would be so kind.

This leads me to the question of the week.

I’m going to do my best to seek out situations where I can perform random acts of kindness in my day-to-day life from now on.  I want everyone to be able to experience the happiness it brought me this week.  I challenge you to do the same.  :-)

I have some really exciting news!  Dreaming in Craft will soon be available at Space in Houston!

I am so excited to expand outside of Austin for the first time and I think Houston is the perfect place to start.  I’ll have some of my most popular plushies available.

These will be available exclusively at Space.

Visit the Space website to see some of the other awesome sellers there.  If you’re in Houston you should check it out.  My plushies will be on their way in the next couple weeks!
