Sunday Songs – Home Again

When I hear a song that really speaks to me I like to tag it with my phone so I can go back and listen to it again later.  A while ago I heard Home Again by Michael Kiwanuka.  I honestly don’t remember where I was or what I was thinking about at the time that made me really connect with the song.  I just loved what the song was saying.  Today while I was sitting here looking through songs to post for Sunday Songs I came across the song again and it was just right for expressing what I needed to say this week.  I’m not sure why but it’s been a weird week for me.  I have been extra stressed and emotional. Maybe it’s because I have a lot going on and never ending to-lists to remind me of that or it could be that I’m having trouble sleeping.  Maybe it’s all of those things.  When I listened to the song again it was kind of a reminder to let things go and just do the best I can and know that the hard times will pass just like they always do.  I’m not sure that’s exactly what the song was saying but it’s what I took from it in that moment.

I hope you have a wonderful week and this some brought you a little inspiration like it did for me.  I’ll be back later this week with a new DIY so be sure you check back to see what it is.  :-)

Sunday Songs – Alabama Shakes

I have been hearing Hold On by Alabama Shakes a lot lately.  Have you heard it?

I don’t know why I like it so much.  It just gets my attention every time I hear it.

I love the story of how the band originally formed…just two kids in high school who happened to know how to play guitar and bass.  And now their debut album is available everywhere.

It’s so great to know that even if you start from small beginnings that you can achieve big goals.  :-)

Last week I came across an article about a photographer who photographed London in a very unique way.  Instead of taking pictures of the beautiful sites in the city, Gavin Hammond chose to photograph their reflections in puddles.

{Photos by Gavin Hammond}

It has been raining some in Austin over the past week so on Saturday I decided to go outside and try my own puddle photography.   I just took a couple pictures on my street so I don’t have any spectacular buildings in my pictures.  It’s mostly trees and power lines.  Next time we get some rain I might try to photograph some fun stuff in Austin.

What do you think?  It’s interesting to look at things from a whole new perspective.

Sunday Songs – Newsies

This week the Tony nominations were announced.  This is a big deal for me as I live in Texas and only get to see musicals when they tour.  It’s my one taste of the live performances until then.  Of course I buy the cast recordings and listen to them over and over again but it’s just not the same as the real thing.

I’m so excited that this year Newsies finally made it to Broadway.

I have thought since I was a kid and first saw this movie that it should be (Yes, I know that sounds super nerdy…don’t care!).  :-)  Now it’s finally happening and I can’t wait for the show to tour so I can see it.  Or, you know, I could suddenly get rich and go on a trip to New York. That’s okay, too.  For now I’ll have to settle for the cast recording and Tony’s.

I was very happy to hear that Newsies was nominated for 8 Tony’s!  This includes best musical!  I was so happy to learn that Harvey Fierstein had written the book for the show and he was nominated for it.  Love him!!

The cast was so excited about the nominations this week.

In honor of the awesome Newsies news this week I thought it would be perfect to share some of the awesome songs from the movie!

I can’t wait to cheer the Newsies on June 10th at the Tony Awards!!  Will you be watching?

Sunday Songs – Next To Me

A couple weeks ago I heard a song on the radio (one of the rare times I actually listen to the radio) that caught my attention and I just had to find out who it was.  Thank you SoundTrackingfor not failing me this time!  I found out the artist’s name is Emeli Sandé and the song is called Next to Me.

Do you have any songs that you stop everything to listen to when they come on?  I love songs like that.  :-)

Sunday Songs – Little Talks

I picked Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men for this week’s song for a couple reasons.  This song is awesome!  I love this style of folk/rock/pop music that has been popular over the last year or so.   This reminds me a little of Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros (which I also love).

This song is on the album called My Head is an Animal.

I also picked this song because I saw the video.  That’s some crazy animation!  But I mean crazy in a good way.  They definitely have a very unique vision.

I’ll be back tomorrow with lots of pictures.  Don’t forget to enter my giveaway!

Week in Pictures – Week Four

Last week for me can be summed up in eight words…

Fashion?? (Hehe! Not really ;-))

Insomnia (sad face :()

Coffee (My mom gave me a new coffee pot!)

What words describe your week?

Sunday Songs – Wings of a Dove

Hi! Thanks for stopping by! It’s time to stop whatever you are doing and get ready for some silliness! When you push play on this song you won’t be able to help yourself. You WILL want to stand up and dance around. :-)

Hehe! That was fun, wasn’t it? In case you were wondering, this song by Madness is called Wings of a Dove. Feel free to buy it for your own dance parties. :-)

Week in Pictures – Week Three

Hello!  I’m back with another week in pictures.  Did you have a good Easter?  I’m sad to say I spent most of Easter Sunday laying around on the couch with a terrible headache.  I did get to watch The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins so I’m not too sad about missing out on the fun.  It’s been a really crazy couple of weeks around here because of some family stuff we had going on.  Things seem to be slowing down so I’m hoping to get back to a normal schedule this week.

Here’s what I did get to do this week.

I spent some time outside,

took pictures of the sky

spotted some wildlife  😉

 Did some crafting

Made to do lists and read a book

and had a couple movie nights at home.

What was your favorite part of last week?

Sunday Songs – Everything I Want To Be

Lately the only time I really have to listen to music is when I’m in my car.  I have still been listening to my old iPod which means I’ve been hearing a lot of songs from my high school and college days.

I love it when I come across a song I haven’t heard in a long time that happens to be exactly what I needed to hear. That song for me this week was Everything I want to be by Save Ferris.

This song is about having big dreams and not being afraid to go for them even when people tell us they’re silly or we can’t do it.

Your dreams are special to you
But maybe others don’t care
It brings you down
When you find them disregarded
And when you’re out on your own
It’s hard to make yourself stay
And finish up what it was
That you once started

We might want to give up because we start to believe people when they tell us we can’t do it, but we just have to remember that even if others don’t understand, it’s something that’s special to us and we shouldn’t give up on our dreams.

It means everything
It means something to me

What is one big dream you have for your life?

March Photo a Day – Week Five

I made it all the way through the March Photo a Day Challenge.  It was a lot of fun!  I decided to take a break from the April project to focus on my own projects.  If I have time I’ll join the project again in May.

Here are the final pictures from my March Photo a Day project.

Day Twenty-Nine – Feet

I love crazy socks.  I have lots of fun pairs, but this is one of my favorites.

Day Thirty – Toy

This is a Huggle I bought from AJ the Purple last year.  He’s so cute!

Day Thirty-One – Where You Relax

This is my big, comfy chair.  I love to lay here when I relax and read a book.  I just wish I had a little more time for it.  😉

The end.
