Light Up

Light Up is the story of a little girl who dreams of seeing the stars.  Then one day something magic happens.

The animation in this story is beautiful.  I love the girl’s face.

The colors are so pretty…

and the lighting makes it even more spectacular.

Most of all I love that this story reminds us that magic can happen.

I hope it brightened your day.  :-)

The Joy of Books

When I was younger I thought it would be so fun to work in a book store.  I love to walk around all the different sections looking for book covers that catch my eye.  I could spend hours in a bookstore (especially if there’s coffee)!

I do love being able to have a book I want instantly on my Kindle but there really is nothing quite like a real book…

especially if it comes from a bookstore as magical as this one.  :-)

Have you read any good books lately?  I always love recommendations.

A Key to Happier Living

I found this cute stop motion animation called A Key to Happier Living by Alice, Lai Sze Chan and thought it would be perfect for this week’s Saturday animation because it reminded me of yesterday’s Question of the week about kindness (which, by the way, you can still answer here). :-)

This stop motion was a graduation project for the creator.  She chose her topic from the 10 Keys to Happier Living from Action for Happiness.  The theme for this animation was “Relating: Connect with People” and I think she did an amazing job of depicting that.

I love how each colorful scene is separate from the others in its own picture frame and then it all comes together in the center.

This gives me an idea for a possible art project.  Hmmm…I think I’ll keep it a secret for now until I have time to work on it.

What are you up to this weekend?  I hope you’re having some fun with friends.  :-)

Color

We interrupt your regularly scheduled Saturday Animation programming for a short commercial break.

Haha!  Just kidding!  Today’s Saturday animation is actually a set of beatifully animation commercials from Sherwin Williams.  I’m sure you seen them before.  They are so pretty!

I think the last one is my favorite.  Or maybe the hot air balloons.  It’s so hard to pick.  Which one is your favorite?

That’s it for this commercial break. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.  😉

See you tomorrow!

Magic Water

Today’s Saturday Morning Animation is going to be a Saturday Evening Animation.  I got a little behind.  Oops.  But, it’s a good one so it’s worth the wait.

This week I chose another stop motion.  This animation by Guldies is called Magic Water.  It reminds me a little of the style of animation PES makes, but it definitely has its own unique style.

I love this!  I think I watched it about ten times just trying to see if I could figure out what shots they took to get the clay to move like that.  I wonder how difficult it was to make the it look so much like water.

That was fun.  Now it’s time to get down to business with some very important reminders.  😉

Have you answered the question of the week?  I would really love to read your response.

Don’t forget to enter the Tiny Treasures Giveaway for a chance to win a Dreaming in Craft zipper pouch.  You have until Tuesday!

Stop Motion Studio Pro HD

If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter or Facebook then you know I love posting pictures.  I am addicted to photography apps on my phone!  I love all the fun borders, collages and filters.  It makes me happy!  :-)  Since I love stop motion just as much as I love taking pictures I decided to do a little search for stop motion apps.  Believe it or not there actually are a few.  Of course we’re talking about phone apps for making stop motion videos so these are purely for fun and not necessarily for making a quality stop motion animation.  I’m okay with that.  I just want to play around anyway.  I’ll get down to the real stop motion making once my big idea comes to me.

The first app I downloaded was called Stop Motion Studio Pro HD.

I made this short animation with some of the magnetic letters I had left over from my days working in early childhood classrooms.  I didn’t realize it was going to be so short!

It turned out okay.  It has some limitations, but if your just using the app for fun it’s pretty good.

There were a few things that I would like to see improved.

  • All pictures have to be taken with the app.  Existing photos taken with a camera or phone cannot be used.
  • Pictures have to be taken in the order they are used.  For example, if I wanted to start the stop motion and end it the same way I would have to retake the pictures at the end instead of just repeating the pictures from the beginning.
  • Music only plays from the beginning of a song.  You can’t choose a section of a song that you prefer.  It makes it a lot harder to find a song that will work.
  • Picture quality isn’t great.  I can get way better pictures on my phone with almost every other app I have used.  If I could at least edit the pictures I would be happier.
  • You can’t choose the speed of the picture changes.  I would have like to slow down the changes for picture that I wanted to stay on the screen for longer instead of having to take the same picture 5 times.  Another solution for this would be using a picture more than once as I mentioned in my comment above.

Besides being fun to play with, there were a couple of things I liked about the app.

  • There is a frame count so I can keep track of the number of pictures I took for each frame.  This is helpful if you need to take any number of the same picture in a row.
  • You can set the camera to take a picture at certain increments of time.  This is helpful so you have time to set up the shot.   It’s also nice if you can prop your camera up so you only have to worry about setting up the picture.
  • The grid is very helpful since I don’t have any kind of tripod for my phone and can’t use pictures from somewhere else (did I mention that this bugs me? ;-)).  It helped me keep the pictures a little more steady.  It’s not perfect but I think the shakiness gives it a cute stop motion feel.  :-)
  • The app only costs $0.99!  Not bad at all.

I’ll keep the app on my phone so I can play around with it some more.  I found a few more stop motion apps that I’m excited to try out soon.  I’ll let you know what I think.

Have you tried this app?  I would love to hear what you thought about it.

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

I’m going to see Mary Poppins today!  My mom and I get season tickets for the Broadway Across America musicals and today is Mary Poppins Day!  I’m excited to see how they translate one of my favorite movies into a stage show.

In honor of Mary Poppins Day I decided to dedicate this week’s Saturday Animation to a very special kind of animation.  I love the movies that combine live action with animation.  Disney used to do this all the time.  Do you remember Bed Knobs and Broom Sticks?  I love that movie!

Then, of course there’s my very favorite…Mary Poppins! Here’s Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (Remember when you were a kid and you didn’t know how to spell that word? Hehe!)

Now I want to spend the rest of my weekend watching all of my favorite Disney movies from when I was a kid. :-) But, there is much to be done. Lots of blogging and sewing to catch up on. And…of course…Mary Poppins! Did I mention that I’m excited?

Have a great day!

Hold Me Tight

I found a really fun stop motion animation a while ago but I wanted to save it for the new Dreaming in Craft blog.  Now that it’s here I can finally share it with you!

This animation is really fun because it’s a Beatles stop motion.  I am a big fan of the Beatles so this one made me very happy.  The song is Hold Me Tight.  It’s from the 1963 album With The Beatles.

What did you think?  Pretty cute, right?  I love all the little details on the costumes and how the drums change to match.  :-)

I’m off to work on some craft projects.  I hope to have my very first tutorial ready for you soon.

What are you up to today?

Secret Life of Suckers – Fliers

Good morning!  It’s been a busy day for me so far.  I’ve been working on finishing up a consignment order that I’m dropping off today, but I still made time for a little Saturday animation.  This week I chose another Secret Life of Suckers short.  I wrote a post about this Disney XD animation short series a while ago.  It’s a really cute series.

This one is called Fliers.

Thanks for taking a little break and joining me for some fun animation. I’m off to get some more work done.

What are you up to this weekend?

The Artists

This week’s Saturday Morning Animation is called The Artists.

The Artists from Giant Creative on Vimeo.

I thought this was such a cute animation.  It reminds me of some of the Pixar shorts with the style.  The outcome of the story was pretty great, too.  :-)

Thanks for starting your weekend with me.  Have a great day!

p.s.  The Green Frazzle would like to wish you a very happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Fresh Guacamole

This week’s Saturday Animation is all about one of my favorite stop motion film makers, PES.  I have featured a PES on my blog in the past and you will definitely be seeing more in the future.

Today’s animation is the latest, “Fresh Guacamole”.   It’s really fun!  You may have seen it earlier in the week.  It was making the rounds in my twitter and facebook feeds.

I think it is so creative how he takes an object and makes it represent something completely different. The quality of the animation is so great, too. I hope that one day I’ll be able to make a stop motion half as good as this.
